For Q1, we discussed preparing to follow your purpose and implementing a plan. We are going to conclude Q1 with being patient with ourselves as we are adjusting to our new normal. I want each of us to think about the fact that we are all experiencing global change management simultaneously. As anyone knows that has had to execute a major corporate change management initiative or experienced change management in your business, everyone does not experience progression through the cycle at the same time.

Some of us are having a harder time adapting to our new normal, while others are embracing it wholeheartedly. Please show grace to both yourself and others. Right now, I want you to think about your history of dealing with major change. This will give you an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how you can leverage strengths from previous change management initiatives and also understand some of the areas of opportunity that will impact how you are coping with your new normal today either personally or professionally.

Beginning today and for a significant part of Q2, we are going to experience the change management cycle together. Each week, I will leave you with exercises to complete. Whether you are an entrepreneur having to make changes in your approach to your business or a corporate professional that now finds yourself adjusting to a new virtual world, this will be a relevant experience.

The first part of the change management cycle is making sure that you are influencing commitment to the change. Whether you are a leader of a large team, an individual contributor, or a start up…the last few weeks have caused many of us to reassess how we commit ourselves and our teams to the what is currently our new normal.

When you feel overwhelmed, just breathe and tell yourself that it is going to be okay. Remember, you are doing your best and that is all that you can ask of yourself. I’m sending you a virtual fist bump to keep moving forward one small step at a time. This too shall pass my friend. In the meanwhile, please be kind and patient with both yourself and others.

Here is your homework for this week:

How are you approaching the ‘new normal’ that you are currently experiencing personally and/or professionally?
What things have currently changed for you regarding your job or business?
What is working well for you?
What are your current challenges?
